A MAN has died after falling from a cliff in front of his girlfriend on the Jurassic Coast.
The 32-year-old Wiltshire man fell between 30-40ft, hit a ledge and fell into the sea. He fructured his arm and was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead later on.
The man, who was described as an experienced climber, was visiting the area with his girlfriend when the tragedy occurr-ed near Dancing Ledge, Swan-age on Thursday afternoon.
Police and coastguards were involved in an operation to try and save the man.
The rescue operation invol-ved the Portland coastguard helicopter, St Albans, Swanage and Wyke Regis Coastguard s and Swanage inshore lifeboat.
A spokesman for the coastguard said the man's girlfriend climbed down the cliff to secure him before climbing back up to raise the alarm.
He added: “He was unconscious and unresponsive when the lifeboat attended.”
He was airlifted to hospital but pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The coroner for West Dorset has been informed.
