MASCOT: Bournemouth Tourism’s clown MASCOT: Bournemouth Tourism’s clown

A GLITTERING awards ceremony celebrating the best in Bournemouth’s tourism industry will be staged at the O2 Academy in Boscombe on November 22.

Now in its seventh year, the 2012 Bournemouth Tourism Awards will feature the Daily Echo’s People’s Choice Award providing a unique opportunity for local businesses, their customers and our readers to get involved.

The new award is open to local tourism businesses including hotels, guest house, B&Bs, restaurants, attractions, cafes, nightclubs, bars, shops, local tourism service providers as well as sightseeing and coach operators.

To nominate your business email amy.habgood@ bournemouth.gov.uk or phone 01202 451751.

Once you’ve received your nomination pack from Bournemouth Tourism it’s down to you to get your customers to vote for you in the first round.

They can do this by visiting bournemouth.co.uk/ business/tourism-awards-2012 or by looking out for posters displayed in the windows of participating establishments.

Those who vote for their favourite tourism business in the Echo’s People’s Choice Award will be entered into a free prize draw.

The winners will receive a complimentary two-night stay, inclusive of breakfast, at the Bournemouth High-cliff Marriott or Ports-mouth Marriott Hotel.

The closing date to nominate your business is August 24, and the closing date for customer votes is September 3.

The top five nominations will be published in the Daily Echo and readers will be invited to vote for the overall winner.

The winner of the Echo’s People’s Choice Award who will be announced at the Bournemouth Tourism Awards ceremony, which will have an antique circus theme.

It is a pity the Tourist Information in Bournemouth has had it's staff cut, it no longer provides a valuable service to Bournemouth. in fact you can get more information at the Christchurch Information Centre. A great shame.

For services to Bournemouth Tourism there can be only one candidate - Bournemouth Borough Council.
They have invested a fortune of public money on the seafront in Southbourne, Boscombe and Bournemouth.
At Southourne tourists can see how to replinish a sandy beach at great expense using pebbles and sea shells.
Visitors can move on to Boscombe and now make use (not) of an Artificial Surf Reef, enjoy a stroll along Boscombe Pier (not too far and only in daylight), admire the art sculptures (rusting scrap metal) on Sea Road, view the (empty) Beach/Surf Pods and then perhaps take a break in the main shopping precinct and watch the locals going largely unhindered about their daily routines.
If they wish visitors can head instead for Bournemouth Pier, here they can enjoy the multi-million pound public investment in a large new complex (the empty unused Imax building) and perhaps take a refreshing walk the length Old Christhcurch Road (effectively a large Council licensed pub) in the late evening.
The overall experience will be educational, it will teach you never to come back to Bournemouth again.
Negative? No just furious.
The good people who really win these awads will not do so because of our inept and dodgy Local Authority but very much despite them!

Isn't it about time the Echo stopped this idiot from posting adverts for free, this is a comments page not a bill board.

Quite right.
Suggestions that the mascot represents an uneducated and unconcerned Councils hat out to the biggist bidder are unfounded (I think)
