Selfish behaviour showing contempt

IT is obviously very wrong to associate all travellers with the behaviour of anti-social individuals or groups. That is not fair and legitimises prejudice.

But the particular group who saw fit to move off from their illegal site at Duck Lane, West Howe, leaving an appalling mess of rubbish, waste and rubble, deserve a bucketful of criticism.

There is no excuse for any selfish individuals churning up fields, then leaving their foul, dumped waste when they move on, carelessly expecting others to clear it up and pay the cost.

What makes this particularly unsavoury is that the mess was left in a field next to a school, on an area where children play.

It is highly commendable that at least one community-minded resident has attempted to remove some of the mess these selfish individuals have left behind. She should not have to.

The people who left the Duck Lane site in such squalor – the group has now moved on to Kinson – showed utter contempt for others. They should feel ashamed.

We doubt that they do.
