More than 40 firefighters fought a blaze that destroyed part of a GP surgery in Poole.
The fire at the practice in Culliford Crescent, Canford Heath, started around 2.30am in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
It destroyed the roof of the building according to a fire service spokesman.
Poole firefighters were first on the scene but quickly called for back-up.
The cause is believed to be arson after a wheelie bin was set alight by the front door of the surgery.
Dorset Police are investigating another suspicious fire in the shopping precient.
The surgery is part of the Canford Heath Group Practice which is based in Mitchell Road. It serves one of the largest estates in the UK.
Main appointments which were due to take place today at the surgery will now take place at the Mitchell Road practice.
Local ward councillor Chris Matthews who lives nearby said: "It's devastating for the community. "This a very well used surgery running a full service thoughout the week and I am horrified by what's happened." He said the council would liaise with the doctors to see if there was any help they could offer.
Dorset Police are also investigating criminal damage to three bus shelters overnight in Hasler Road where glass was shattered.

This is the result of years of Labour politics. Your society is going down the drain, and its too late to reverse the slide. If they ever catch the ones responsible for this crime, the most likely punishment will be an ASBO!! LOL!!!! What a joke.

I live on Canford Heath and to see such damage especially to a GP surgery, is a very sad reminder of today's society. The mentality of some of today's youth is beyond me, the parents too have a part to play in knowing where their children are at night. The Police will be checking cctv as we speak and when the person or persons are caught, i feel that they should be made an example of. This would send a clear message that this behaviour will not be tolerated. A message to the arsonists: You will be caught. Expect a knock on your door very soon.
I was woken up by the noise of the events of last night at the surgery as I live very close to it - I am sure but for their skills, it would/could have been a lot worse. The surgery is also very close to a sheltered housing scheme for older people - they must have been quite frightened.
A very sad event and very stupid act by person/s - whom as Localwatch mentioned, should have the b***s to own up as either way, you'll get found out soon enough... Lets just hope its not some dopey judge who gives them an earful and sends them on their way.

Since they came to power in 1997, they have, as all Labour parties everywhere in the world, been lenient towards criminals and uncaring about the victims of crime. At least Conservatives want tougher sentences.

The US executes murderers but has a murder rate double that of the UK where, for a first offence, the likely life sentence is about 15 years. Also, US sentences in general are far longer than in this country.

When you lock people up for years, the taxpayer not only has to pay the cost of the imprisonment but also to pay the social costs of their wives and children.
Conservative Ken Clarke, the Justice Secretary, has released early a lot of prisoners who are not considered to be a threat.

Ding, dong, bell, ****’s in the well. Who put her in? Little Johnny Green. Who pulled her out? Little Tommy Stout. What a naughty boy was that, To try to drown poor **** cat, Who ne’er did him any harm, But killed all the mice in the farmer's barn.

I think most people realise that 2.30am is the 'early hours' of the 'morning'.. but good to clarify things a couple of times just in case..
What possesses people to do such things makes the mind boggle.

However, I want to respond to a few people on here. Firstly, Norweigan Justice and scouserdavewells, political parties don't have 100% control of people. They do NOT have the ability to, at the last minute, go "wait, stop, you can't do that!".
Secondly, to all the people blaming youths. On what basis? That a few of them are complete idiots. Yeah, a FEW. I know a few adults who are complete idiots yet they the adult age range doesn't get stereotyped with these idiots. I'm a member of Poole Youth Forum, and one piece of work we're doing right now is how we can combat these stereotypes. Surprisingly, not all youths are violent, drunk, drug addicted thugs who seek to cause trouble. MOST youths do NOT seek to cause trouble, aren't always drunk, aren't always addicted to drugs! The sooner people realise that, the better for society.

Whilst I agree with your basic premise that not ALL youths are problematic teens, a lot that hang around Asda and the vicinity are. Horrible little feckless scrotes. I'm not old myself but after purchasing cheap booze for myself or mates when I was that age, we tended to disappear to Broadstone Rec or away from the public, not sit there in the doorway drinking and abusing people.
There is every chance that this was caused by a disturbed adult (or even an adult matching the description above) but law of averages would say that it was one of these wastes of oxygen who thought it would be funny.

Of course there's a chance it was a youth, or a group of youths, that caused it. However, I get extremely annoyed with people who generalise all youths to be "horrible little feckless scrotes", to use your words. It's even more annoying when there isn't a single mention of "young people" in the article, it's the assumptions that annoy me.

Unfortunately, I think you are fighting a losing battle convincing people otherwise. Every generation blames the ones after it for all the world's ills but generally it is that generation that made it as it was.
There are a lot of people my age living on the Heath (30-40 years old) and they range from doctors and teachers to drug-taking benefits scroungers. Unfortunately, the ones at the lower end of the human decency scale tend to be the ones that leave a bigger impression on people, hence the generalisations being made.
And I've got no idea WTF scouserdavewells means!

I personally don't care how old these brain dead idiots are.
ZERO tolerance and a minimum of 10 years inside should act as a worthy deterrent.
Could have been someone in there working late, for all they know, then it would have been arson and murder.

Errrrr.....Under 18.
At 18+ you are supposed to be a responsible young adult.Hence the ability to legally vote and drink alcohol. But as we all know they start early boozing in this country especially when you see press reports of 12-13 year old alcoholics.
