UPDATED: Jet ski police plans revealed for Olympics

COPS on jet-skis and powerboats will be part of the security operation to cover the 50 square miles of Olympic sailing waters.

Dorset Police has announced plans for making the borough's London 2012 venue safe during the Olympic and Paralympic competition.

It has also been revealed that Royal Navy ship HMS Bulwark will be arriving in Weymouth and Portland waters next week – as part of a security exercise ahead of the Olympics.

HMS Bulwark will arrive 10 miles off Weymouth late on Monday.

It will remain there for four days to play a part in a security testing exercise, led by Dorset Police.

Residents are warned to expect to see increased activity in the Weymouth Harbour area.

Slightly misleading picture - it would be difficult for Bulwark to run down a jetski. Nice idea, though..

Not misleading at all. It's where they'll be based. Bulwark has a floating dock at the aft end from which the jet skis and ribs will deploy

Why does this remind me of the Police Academy spoof movie? Though to be fair it sounds like a good old jolly at the tax payers expense again. Nice work if you can get it eh?

The Taliban may want to disrupt the games but it is unlikely. However, there are hundreds of terrorist organisations out there and just 1 of them may feel it would be a good media spectacle to disrupt the games. They may not necessarily be protesting about the UK or USA but they may feel it is justified to disrupt other nations competitors - such as the Syrian athletes?

One thing is for certain. We can count on our Police and Armed Forces to try their very best to stop any organisation from disrupting the Games...whether that be by gentle persuasion or lethal force.

Dorset Police Marine Section have used jet skis in the past to effectively police coastal waters, particularly around the Bournemouth, Poole, Studland areas. They are very effective in dealing with anti social behaviour by other small craft users who contravene speed and navigation laws particularly in restricted swimming areas off beaches, thus endangering swimmers. (The fines for speeding were greater in a watercraft than for driving a vehicle on a road).
A useful craft for the purpose to which it will be put.

Dam, I got all excited when I read "Jet Ski" plans for olympics.

I was hoping the shooting event would be held at Bowleaze Cove Cove and the Jet Ski's used for targets.......
