A DORCHESTER housing association has been doing its bit to tackle global warming.
Magna Housing Association has marked the national Climate Week with a series of events to promote the green message.
The group held drop-in events to show staff and tenants some of the things it has already done to make Magna a more environmentally friendly organisation and to promote awareness of the climate change campaign.
At its head office in Poundbury Road there was also a selection of locally sourced food on offer, provided by county town firm Rural Foods, and demonstrations of a variety of energy saving devices from power saving plugs to low energy light bulbs, which were donated by the Dorset Energy Advice Centre.
Climate Week is aimed at promoting a new wave of action to create a sustainable future.
Thousands of events took place across Britain, with businesses, schools, charities, councils and other organisations all getting involved.
Last year half a million people attended around 3,000 events held nationwide.
Magna Housing Assoc-iation’s project manager Jenni Edwards said their events were very well received and helped spread the important message to both staff and tenants.
She said: “These events, held by Magna, saw a great attendance which proves that there is a genuine desire to help our planet.
“It’s really important to Magna that we do as much as we can to limit our impact on the environment, so these events helped to show staff and tenants what they can do that makes a difference, whether at work or at home.
“Magna are grateful to the local organisations who supported their efforts and are looking forward to seeing what we can do for 2013.”
