A BIG-hearted Bournemouth woman has swopped her home comforts for three months to work with a human rights charity in West Africa.
Felicity Newman, 22, who lives in Throop, is a former pupil of St Walburga’s primary school and St Peter’s secondary school in Southbourne.
After graduating from Bath University with a chemistry degree, she joined a team of British volunteers on an international development placement in Mali.
Felicity is working with several disability organisations including the Malian Union of the Blind.
She told the Daily Echo: “We are working in a country where there is huge social stigma against physical and learning disability.
“Our aim is to create a sensory playground within school grounds, to cater not only for social needs but to provide the stimulation essential to positive childhood development.”
Felicity is appealing for donations towards the project.
