BOURNEMOUTH’S deposed council leader Peter Charon has become the first councillor in the region to achieve an Advance Community Leadership Award.
Ironically, the award comes just weeks after Cllr Charon lost a vote of no confidence proposed by his colleagues and was forced to resign as council leader and Conservative group leader.
Cllr Charon said he was delighted to have achieved the award and said: “My professional presentation was on sharing services, which is essential in the current financial climate.
“I am very grateful to South West Councils for their help and encouragement and would recommend that other councillors consider gaining recognition for their skills and knowledge.
“It was certainly demanding but very worthwhile.”
Dorset County Council’s Cllr Michael Bevan also became the first councillor from the region to achieve the Intermediate Practitioner’s Award.
He said: “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to develop and demonstrate my skills.
“I believe that I will now be able to better serve and support the people of Dorset.”
