HALF a century after its launch, Westover Jaguar in Poole helped reunite one of the first examples of an E-Type with its original owner.

Westover director Paul Collins is one of a handful of people in the current Jaguar network who was selling the E-Types in the late 60s and 70s and was asked to help bring together some of the first owners with their cars.

He said: “I managed to track down Marcus Girvan, who was just 21 at the time.

“He had won one of the first E-Types after entering a competition organised by the Daily Mail on 16 March 1961 – the day after Jaguar introduced the E-Type to the world in Geneva.

“Overnight, the E-Type had become the most wanted car in the world, so Marcus, who is from Southport, was envied.”

Marcus met up with current owner of the car, John Butterworth, who has fully restored it.

Back in the pre-Ford days when they were still items of beauty.
