HARRY Redknapp has spoken of his “nightmare” five years after being found not guilty of tax evasion.

He was acquitted this morning of two counts of cheating the public revenue by a jury following a trial at Southwark Crown Court and told reporters: “This is a case that should never have come to court.”

Speaking on the court steps, the emotional Tottenham Hotspur manager thanked his legal team, fans and family.

He said: “I just really want to thank my legal team they were fantastic, the support I’ve had from everybody at Tottenham.

“I just have to thank the fans especially the fans at Tottenham at the Wigan game the other night was the most moving to hear them singing my name while the game was going on. I’ll never forget that.

“I’m really just looking forward to going home and seeing my wife Sandra and getting away from all this it really has been a nightmare. It’s been five years and this is a case that should never have come to court, it’s unbelievable really.

“It’s horrendous. I’m pleased now we can go home and get on with things, get on with my life.”
