Dorset Police are calling for a Wimborne pub’s licence to be reviewed after a serious assault.

Teenager Bo Revell lost part of his ear and needed 30 stitches after a man attacked him with a glass in the Rising Sun, in East Street, on a Friday night in October.

Police officers and paramedics who were called to the scene found staff had not given the victim basic first-aid and a member of the public had been left to care for him.

Now Dorset Police’s licensing officer Caroline Wateridge has asked for East Dorset District Council’s sub-licensing committee to reconsider the Hall and Woodhouse-owned pub’s licence conditions – she believes it is warranted on the grounds of improving the prevention of crime and disorder and upholding public safety.

She said: “Steps were not taken by the management, bar staff or security to deal with initially the incident during the time of the assault or immediately afterwards.”

The area of the attack had not been isolated, the glass used as a weapon – an important piece of evidence – was not kept and the four doormen were reluctant to help police, her report said.

No one on duty, including the manager Jo Archer, could work the CCTV system, officers said.

PC Patrick Steele Perkins said: “In my opinion this was the last opportunity at the time to get a description of the offender.

“If we had been able to view the CCTV it is possible that the offender would have been arrested on the night.”

The pub chain’s regional manager Lynn O’Neill said: “I am not able to comment while the review is going on.”

The sub-licensing committee can modify licence conditions, exclude a licensable activity, remove designated supervisors and suspend or revoke licences.
