RSPCA officers are trying to track down the owner of a lost cockatiel.

The bird was found by two-year-old Sophie MacNaughtan, when she was sitting having her breakfast with her parents Nick and Lynsey in their flat in St Thomas Street, Weymouth.

The family called the RSCPA and they collected the bird that was described as being ‘very hungry’. Manager at the RSPCA centre in Kingston Maurward Lisa Samways, said that the bird who has been called Steven, had come to them on Sunday afternoon.

She said: “Steven is a very pretty cockatiel – he’s a pearl one so he’s quite special.

“He’s not a friendly pet bird, we think he has probably come from an aviary.

“He was hungry when he came in, so he had probably been out for a few days.”

She added: “He is now in our bird aviary and he is flying around and eating and drinking quiet happily. He’s probably a bit miffed to be back in captivity.”

The RSPCA have said that if Steven is not claimed that they have a new home lined up for him.

The owner can contact the RSPCA on 01305 259672.
