A DOZEN bands, an open mic night and around 90 raffle prizes are set to make a spectacular fundraising night in memory of a Weymouth schoolgirl.

People are being encouraged to snap up tickets for tomorrow’s Robyn’s Fund Concert, which is taking place from 3pm until 8pm at the No.6 pub in King Street.

The event, in memory of All Saints pupil Robyn Nixon, will be raising funds for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in Poole, where Robyn was born five and a half weeks early.

A dozen bands, including Sheryl Lee, Skint Imperials, The Mad Ox Brothers, a Johnny Cash tribute band and Jenny, will be performing throughout the afternoon and revellers can also get involved through open mic sessions.

Among them will be 16-year-old Zoe Dymott who is performing her song Cup Cakes And Flowers which she wrote in memory of Robyn.

Robyn’s mum Sue Nixon, of Wyke Regis, said: “We’ve got 225 tickets and they’ve been selling well the last couple of days.

“We’ve got about 90 raffle prizes at the moment, including a limousine ride, family tickets to Monkey World and Weymouth Sea Life Park.

“There’s meal vouchers, hairdressing and beauty treatments and a £50 voucher from Van shoes, which Robyn used to wear all the time.

“Everyone’s been very generous.”

Other highlights will include cup cake stalls, refreshments, a name the teddy bear competition and possibly face painting.

Family friend Chris Druce is organising the event and Mrs Nixon said a lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to make it a success.

Tragic teenager Robyn took her own life in April this year, by walking off the top of a Weymouth town centre multi-storey car park.

Organisers hope the concert will prove as popular as Robyn’s Rock Out Goodbye Party when hundreds of people filled Lower St Alban Street wearing brightly-coloured clothes, face paint and flowers in their hair to honour the 15-year-old.

Would-be revellers are urged to buy their £5 tickets in advance to avoid disappointment from The Perfect Portrait Company, Elise services, Rude Not To and Bee Cars – evenings only – in the town centre.

Doors will open at 2pm, to find out more call Chris on 07784 888747.
