Lyme Regis: Car windows smashed

VANDALS smashed car windows in Lyme Regis in the first attack of the summer.

Police said that between August 29 and August 30, three cars were broken into while parked in the Charmouth Road car park in Lyme Regis.

The cars were all owned by visitors to Lyme and had been left unattended for a couple of days.

Two of the cars had one window smashed to gain entry and the third car had three windows smashed.

Police believe the vandals had attempted to get into the car, but had been stopped by the central locking system and had resorted to trying all the windows.

Nothing was stolen from any of the cars.

Dorset police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone who heard breaking glass late at night to come forward.

Spokesman for Lyme Regis Safer Neighbourhood Team Richard Winward said: “It’s the first of this type of incident this summer, we just don’t get that kind of problem. Lyme Regis is a very safe place to park a car.”

He added: “This is particularly disappointing. The offender had absolutely no regard for the victims who had to face the expense and inconvenience of repairing their vehicles.”

Police believe that the three incidents are linked and probably committed by the same person or group of people.
