BIC bookings to generate £8m for town

In the last six months the BIC has clinched 10 lucrative contracts, which are estimated to generate £8m in delegate spending for Bournemouth.

This new business has seen the venue secure shows as far ahead as 2017.

“Future bookings are really strong,” revealed Clive Tyers, head of conferences, exhibitions and events at the BIC.

Notable successes have included the Labour Party, which has confirmed its return to the Bournemouth International Centre for its conference in September 2013. For the second year running, the organisers of the Fab at 50 exhibition have decided to return to the BIC in October.

However, it has outgrown the one hall it took last year, requiring two for this year’s event.

Other organisations to choose the BIC include Airmic (the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers), which is holding its annual event there in June 2011 and 2013.

The Care Show, which is holding an event at the BIC this year is also hosting its exhibition there in March 2011 and 2012 while the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland will hold its conference and exhibition in May 2011. The Baptist Assembly has confirmed bookings for 2015 and 2017 and a number of smaller Rotary District events have also been confirmed.

The BIC’s sister venue, the Bournemouth Pavilion, has been awarded the contract to host the annual graduation ceremony for the Anglo European College of Chiropractic until 2011.

The BIC and Bournemouth’s five leisure centre venues are working towards Charitable Trust status.
