POST offices in pubs, greener homes and better facilities for teenagers are among the ideas to improve life in West Dorset.

They are included in suggestions for the draft West Dorset Community Plan to shape life in the area over the next 16 years.

Now the West Dorset Partnership – which draws up the plan – wants residents to have their say at a number of drop-in sessions over the coming month.

The draft plan identifies priorities for the area. It covers the environment, community safety, culture and leisure, health and the economy.

It also sets out how such services such as housing and transport will be developed.

Other ideas so far include getting more prams and wheelchairs on buses and trains, community orchards, more sheltered housing and affordable homes and using pubs, fire stations and churches as venues for arts events.

The drop-in session in Dorchester is on March 31 in the empty shop next to the Works in South Street, Dorchester.

If the shop has been leased by then, the session will be held from 9.30am to 4.30pm in the Magistrates Room in the Corn Exchange.

Other sessions are on Thursday March 18 at the Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis, from 4pm-6pm, and on Saturday March 20 from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Yarn Barton, Beaminster.

There will also be a drop-in session on March 25 from 1pm to 5pm at the WI Hall in Bridport.

The sessions in Bridport, Lyme Regis and Sherborne will be held alongside events being organised by the Local Area Partnerships and LymeForward.

Bridport Local Area Partnership will be holding a Community Information Day, LymeForward will be running a session focusing on young people and Sherborne Area Partnership will be launching a consultation on its draft action plan.

The plan sets out a framework for local services. Consultation finishes on April 12 2010.
