COMEDIAN Phill Jupitus used Twitter to offer free drinks to the first five people who met him in Bournemouth’s Coffee Republic yesterday.
The star of Never Mind the Buzzcocks was in town for an event at Bournemouth University, where he is a visiting lecturer on the radio production course.
He sent out a tweet at 4.58pm and by 5.15pm the first five people arrived in one big bunch, at the coffee shop in Old Christchurch Road in the town centre.
It was the third time he had staged the offer, and the star, who was staying at The Haven Hotel in Sandbanks, said: “It’s just a great random way to meet other Twitterers.”
He took photos of himself with the people who made it in time and moments later uploaded them to the internet from his phone.
First in was Michael Ells, 19, a music and audio technology student at the university, who said: “I’m nervous about meeting him but excited – I don’t use Twitter that much but it’s just good to see what other people are doing.”
Another handful of people arrived a bit too late – but they got a free coffee any way.

I complained but no one from Twitter bothered to answer. Suffice to say if they can't be bothered, neither can I!
