New Year babies at Dorset County Hospital

THERE were bundles of New Year joy at Dorset County Hospital with a host of new arrivals coming into the world.

Staff in the maternity ward had a busy start to the year, with five babies born by noon on New Year’s Day.

Marie Burnett was the first mum to give birth, with her boy Charlie arriving at 4.43am.

Charlie – who weighed in at eight pounds one-and-a-half ounces – had been due on December 25 but having missed out on being a Christmas Day baby, he became a New Year’s Day baby instead.

Marie, 27, from Littlemoor, said: “It’s a lovely way to start the new year, he’s perfect.

“We celebrated midnight at home and I came in to hospital about 2.10am.

“It came on very suddenly.”

Proud dad Kelvin Bunting had to leave Marie’s bedside to look after Charlie’s siblings Kimberley, eight, Tiffany, seven, Joshua, five, and two-year-old Caitlin.

Marie said: “He’s my fifth child so he’ll have lots of brothers and sisters to play with.”

Another baby with a gift for timing was little Myles Brown, who arrived three weeks early to the delight of mum Kelly Scadding and dad Robin Brown from Dorchester.

Their seven pounds thirteen ounces bundle of joy was born at around 6.50am, after 26-year-old Kelly had been brought into Dorset County Hospital on New Year’s Eve.

She said: “It’s not how I was expecting to spend new year’s but it was a nice surprise.”

Dad Robin said: “It’s a great start to the new year.”

Another new year arrival was Mary Henderson, who was born shortly before 6am.

Mum Ali Henderson, 32, came into hospital at about 5am as her daughter arrived bang on her due date.

Ali, from Sherborne, said: “She seems very well and is doing fine.”

Dad Simon, 34, said: “It’s a good birthday to have.”
