TWO 24-hour strikes by Royal Mail workers are going ahead today – causing havoc with local deliveries.

Talks between Royal Mail and the CWU to resolve disputes over the planned modernisation of the service continued yesterday but the first strike has gone ahead as planned this morning.

Some 1,300 postal workers will be involved in the industrial action locally over the next two days.

Staff at the Poole Mail Centre at the Nuffield Industrial Estate are picketing today, and tomorrow employees at the 24 delivery officers in the area will be going out – affecting all the BH and DT postcode areas.

Derek Clash, Bournemouth and Dorset branch secretary for the CWU said: “The feeling among the workers is very strong. We’ve had enough of Royal Mail’s tactics in pushing through unworkable work loads.”
