STUDENTS pretending to be shoppers, tramps and builders suddenly burst into dance in the street.

Six Weymouth College drama students re-enacted the ‘famous’ mobile phone advert as a dance project in Weymouth town centre.

Lunchtime shoppers were surprised when well known dance tracks such as Tragedy by the Bee Gees and So Excited by the Pointer Sisters were played outside Debenhams.

The group of National Diploma students were headed by performing arts teacher Charlotte Storey.

She said: “The students emerged from the shops and began dancing like the now notorious advert.

“They were successful in their efforts to make it appear that they were simply swept away with the music in the middle of the street.

“The students did three separate sequences, one began with a domestic fight scene that was thought to be real by surrounding shoppers, until the couple broke into dance.

She added: “Although it was raining in the town, the group still gained great support and cheered up the shoppers.”

It was estimated that over 300 people watched the event, some of whom stayed for all three performances.
