SHE’S a real head turner when she struts her stuff in Charminster, Bournemouth.

Essy, a nine-month-old Cherry Valley duck, goes out for walkies with her owners Steph and Tony Tufft and their Staffordshire cross dogs Rachka, two, and DD, four.

Essy, who came from the same duck farm in Cadnam as the famous four-legged Stumpy, thinks she’s a dog.

She goes walkies on her lead, she sleeps with the dogs, and she plays with them in the garden.

They even compete to get treats.

Steph, 25, a dog groomer who also makes wedding cake figurines, said she has always loved ducks and they’ve had Essy since she was eight weeks old.

Essy was even at their wedding reception in Cornwall in September as a guest of honour, and was also represented as a figurine alongside them and their dogs on their wedding cake.

They’ve even organised a pet passport so she can go with them if they move to Tenerife, where Steph lived 18 months ago.

“She’s got a bedroom in the airing cupboard but she prefers to be with the dogs,” Steph said.

“We take her on walks around Charminster.

“She has a lead, a high visibility vest and a collar. The dogs set the pace then she catches up and walks in between them.”

Husband Tony Tufft, 35, a boat builder, said their dogs were very protective of Essy.

“We are known throughout Charminster, people come out of bars to see her. They love it.

“She doesn’t know she’s a duck. She must think she’s a dog.

“She goes up to other dogs, People can’t understand it and the dogs are really confused as well.”

Tony said they had got Essy a lead as they’d been given some strange looks when they’ve been out for the afternoon to parks, by people who thought they were duck-napping.

Steph added: “It’s as if Brad Pitt was walking on the lead, the amount of people that come out. She’s the most famous duck. Groups of foreign students can’t believe it.”
