THE top fundraiser in the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride has been named as Steve Keightley of Corfe Mullen for the second time in a row.
Steve completed the 100 mile ride in the pouring rain in under six hours, raising £2,600 for the cancer charity Bill Temple, owner of Primera Sport, which helped sponsor the event in July, presented Steve with his prize – a fluorescent jacket for his winter training.
Bill, who lost his mother to cancer when he was a teenager, said “We are pleased to support the Macmillan Dorset Bike Ride and recognise people like Steve, whose efforts can do so much to help those living with cancer.”
More than 825 cyclists took part for the 20th year of the event – which was celebrated with the introduction of a new 100-mile ride.
Organiser Peter Smith-Nicholls said: “We have received some excellent sums of money this year particularly from the 100 milers. The final amount raised will not be known until the end of the year but we are on our way to our £70,000 target.”
