UPDATE: Delays after lorry loses load of tarmac along Ringwood Road, Poole
TRAFFIC is queuing along Ringwood Road in Poole this morning after a lorry shed a load of tarmac on the carriageway.
One lane of the road was initially closed while council officials deal with the spill, with the whole road closed at one point to scrape up the tarmac.
The accident is halting motorists close to the Alderney Roundabout, which joins Ringwood Road with Canford Way.
An eye-witness said: “It has spilled about a quarter of a mile from the roundabout, and it’s causing lots of problems.
“Traffic is very slow, and it’s now being diverted back along Ringwood Road.”
A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We received a call at 9.41am to say a white Volvo van registered to a man from Poole had shed its load of hot tarmac.
“Both lanes were closed in the direction of Mountbatten Roundabout. The vehicle has now been recovered and officers left the scene at 11am.”
A Borough of Poole spokesperson added: “There are expected to be delays for some time.”
