Man threatening to harm himself with knife tasered by police at Fisherman's Walk guest house
A GUEST house resident was tasered by police after barricading himself in and threatening to harm himself with a knife.
Police had arrived at the Avenue Guest House in Southbourne on Sunday morning to arrest a 37-year-old on suspicion of breaching his bail conditions.
When they tried to enter a room at the guest house a man stopped them getting inside and threatened to use a knife on himself.
A total of seven police cars, a custody van and an ambulance were called to the property on Fisherman's Avenue in Bournemouth.
The couple who own the guest house were at home while police managed to enter the room and used a taser gun to stop the man causing any serious injury to himself.
A crowd gathered at the end of Fisherman's Walk were told by a policewoman that officers were bringing out a man who had been “going through a difficult period of his life”.
A man was then brought out handcuffed with a blanket covering his head and taken into the police van.
Gary Finley, 26, had been to a cafe when he saw the police. He said: "We came around the corner and saw all the police here.
"They were going in with riot shields and there were loads around the back as well."
Armed officers and dog teams were seen at the rear of the property, on Southbourne Lane West.
Inspector Geoff Hicks, from the Poole and Bournemouth division, said they had arrived at the property at 9.03am to arrest a local man.
He said: "A male refused entry and barricaded the door, making threats to self harm with a knife.
"After lengthy negotiations officers entered the room where a taser was deployed in order to prevent him from self harming.
"There were no significant injuries as a result.
“The male was treated by ambulance at the scene and conveyed to Bournemouth custody."
Armed officers and dog teams were seen at the rear of the property and paramedics were also seen waiting at the scene.
Part of Southbourne Lane West was partially blocked off by armed police and dogs as well.
- At Bournemouth Magistrates Court today a charge of obstructing or resisting a constable in the execution of their duty was withdrawn and he was ordered to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on November 8 to answer his charge of breaching his bail conditions.
