THOUSANDS of enthusiasts flocked to the opening day of the Great Dorset Steam Fair yesterday to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the event.
Sunny skies enticed around 50,000 visitors to the showground at Tarrant Hinton where people were able to enjoy what the organisers claim is the world’s largest heritage event.
Managing Director, Martin Oliver said: “We are feeling very positive about the show this year and there is a great atmosphere on site. We have some excellent exhibits on offer, so I think we are set for one of our best years ever.”
The five-day industrial and agricultural extravaganza near Blandford will be running until September 1.
This year there will be more than 250 vintage tractors, 100 military machines, 140 motorcycle exhibits and 60 showman’s engines.
Visitors have been warned about potential traffic problems tomorrow.
