Iconic helmet creator at Weymouth event
10:00am Saturday 23rd March 2013 in Latest
THE creator of Darth Vader’s helmet, pictured, for the legendary Star Wars films is the special guest at the opening of a Weymouth tourist attraction next week.
Sculptor Brian Muir, who has been working in the film industry for more than 40 years, will open Sandworld sand sculpture park at Lodmoor on Good Friday, March 29.
Sandworld is gearing up for its third season and this year will be celebrating science fiction.
A team of top international sand sculptors have been busy over the last fortnight creating what is believed to be the world’s first sci-fi themed sand sculpture festival.
Artists from as far afield as Canada and the USA have been recreating scenes from Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Jurassic Park, Ben 10, Thunderbirds and Dr Who.
Weymouth sandman and Sandworld co-founder Mark Anderson said: “We chose the science fiction theme this year because so many of the sculptors we work with love sci-fi and were itching to do it.
Mr Muir will be flanked by a guard of Dorset Troopers, a Star Wars-themed group.
Sandworld, which was established in April 2011, is based at Lodmoor County Park.
Don’t miss Monday’s paper for a great Echo reader offer for Sandworld season tickets.
