BikeSafe courses could save your life
5:00pm Friday 22nd March 2013 in Latest
COURSES across the county promoting biker safety have been unveiled.
The BikeSafe courses are available for those riding machines of at least 250cc and they run between April and October.
They run over weekends, with the first part focusing on theory and the second an assessed ride.
It is subsidised by councils and the cost is £20.
PC Chris Smith, BikeSafe Co-ordinator, said: “We ride real bikes on real roads in real situations and plan routes to take in all the various road conditions that you might find in Dorset.
“Even the most experienced bikers could learn something on the BikeSafe course that may one day save their life.
“This course provides motorcyclists with a great opportunity to gain advice and tips on areas including cornering, overtaking, positioning and hazard perception.
“The Dorset Police riders that run this course are genuinely passionate about motorcycling and we hope everyone that takes part in the course enjoys it.
“It’s the best investment you can make as a biker.”
For more information, or to book a place on the course, visit the BikeSafe website at www.bikesafe.co.uk or www.dorset.police.uk

Traffic police come in for a lot of stick, but the ones who participated in the bikesafe course i attend were excellent.
I cant speak highly enough of them.
For £20 its the bargain of the decade.

or cyclists are responsible people the minority of Echo readers try to make out otherwise and it simply is not true.As soon as anything positive is suggested to improve road awareness out come the daggers and the whingers.Change your attitude and perhaps we will make some headway to safer travelling for all of us.

Hopefully it will encourage some of the bikers who think the B3081 is a racetrack to slow down and respect the laws of the road. When the nice weather returns, so will the bikers I'm afraid who not only shatter the peace with that awful sound but also seem to forget they are on the public highway and not a closed Isle of Mann TT circuit.
Also if you are reading this looking for cyclists courses - well they are run often and called BIKEABILITY. Just look it up on the council website for the next courses. Or failing that the Sky go-rides also do how to ride courses as well.
