Military lorry causing long delays on A31 Military lorry causing long delays on A31

A LARGE military lorry broke down on the A31 near West Moors causing congestion and delays on the eastbound carriageway.

The breakdown, which was reported to police at around 10.45am, left the 20 tonne vehicle partially blocking the road near the golf course, bringing traffic to a standstill on the A31 down to the Canford Bottom Roundabout.

An Army recovery vehicle arrived at the scene at 1pm to remove the vehicle, while police officers marshalled the traffic.

Why wasn't this stretch made a dual carriageway when built 30 years ago?

Two and a quarter hours to get a truck removed from a major road, no wonder accidents happen

Only just over 2 hours.. Reccy Mechs must have been close. Used to take over 8 hours to be recovered in Germany..

Not exactly a LARGE lorry is it. If it was a non military lorry it wouldnt of even made the 'paper'. Well done to the police though for putting cones and a sign out or in the words of the experts 'while police officers marshalled the traffic'

The only difference between the Army lorry and a civilian lorry breaking down is the recovery time. For a normal lorry breakdown it would be about half the time.
As Bournemouth2014 says..

Maybe not broken down, but the staff have probably been laid off by this government!
