New V Club owners: we don't want anything to do with previous management
The new owners of troubled nightclub V say they don't want anything to do with the previous management and are prepared to bar them from the premises if it will help get the club's licence back.
V lost its licence at a day-long hearing behind closed doors last week.
The nightclub has been closed since February 12 after an incident in which Ben Selby, 29, was stabbed in the face. Several hours of confidential police evidence convinced Bournemouth council to revoke the licence.
- V club: Richard Carr's teenage son was licence holder
- V club: we won't tolerate poorly managed venues, say police
- D-day: Future of V Club to be decided on Thursday
- V club will be run "properly and professionally" says new owner
- V Club knife attack: "The staff did nothing to help"
- V Club shut down by council after man injured in knife fight
- Winchester boss: I’ve bought metal detector after V Club stabbing
Previously the club's licence was held by James Beedham, a long-time business associate of Richard Carr, then transferred to two holding companies called Ace of Clubs and Vee Asset Ltd, before being transferred again to Richard Carr's 18-year-old son Jacob Carr.
But in a message on the club's Facebook page, new owner Gary Bennetton says he is determined to sever all ties with the club's past.
He wrote: "As the new owners of V this last week has driven home to us how badly run the venue was operated.
"We bought the club from the previous owners when it was clear the Police and Council had lost all confidence in the previous senior management.
"We want to turn V around, and ensure it is fully compliant with its license and ALL associated conditions.
"We are nothing whatsoever to do with the previous owners, and have offered licensing conditions to bar the previous owners from the venue and sworn statements under oath that they will be nothing whatsoever to do with our business going forward.
"This is very frustrating for us, as we would not be in business with these individuals and are fed up with people saying we are in anyway linked to them.
"We have been advised we are able to open V whilst on appeal, but have decided our longterm relationship with the Police is more important, and hope to have an update very soon as we are trying to work with the local authorities to reassure them, and get open ASAP.
"Thank you to all previous customers for your support, and we hope to have news in the next month.
"V is a great venue and deserves to be given the opportunity to be run properly - please get behind us and support it's reopening."

The records show Richard Carrs girlfriend - one person, not owners. And someone who had not owned or ran a nightclub before stumping up a large sum of money to buy this club ..... hmmmm.
And the licensing authorities were happy to grant a nightclub license to an 18 year old who has never owned or ran a nightclub before, someone who was, coincedentally, Richard Carr's son ...hmmm.
Has no one asked why an 18 year old was given a nightclub license ? Could the council explain this decision ... or could the Insolvency service explain why they cannot see what is so blindingly obvious to everyone else ?

And there was rarely if ever any bother there so even though I'm not part of that scene it would be good if there was a venue catering to it because at least you could be reasonably sure of a safe night out.
What about using the venue as a grownup club for the alternative / goth / emo scene of Bournemouth as there is nowhere else in town except for the Sound Circus and downstairs at the Anvil. All the other clubs in town seem to over-cater for the trance / dance scenes and are in no way Goth / alternative / emo friendly.

The alternative scene you refer to is exactly that, alternative, and therefore has a limited market.
I'm all up for a venue such as this being marketed towards an older crowd (i'm over 30), but a venue of such size, 2,000 capacity, catering for such a odd market such as Emo would just never work.

Hopefully, at least some of the staff willl have kept the jobs in these hard times.
SInce it's open again, I wonder if old Bob49 would like to join me there over the weekend for a pint?
If so Bob, it looks like they've barred Mr Carr & his pals so you won't have to face up to him in person with all your questions & accusations.
Let me know - the beer will be on me!

Bournemouth has always had a dedicated and passionate alternative audience. Will never forget those legendary Britpop and grunge days at the Hothouse, then Xtreme, the Gardening Club and now Sound Circus, with pre club in the Gander or South Western. Our place is out of town as we dont want to associate ourselves with those mindless idiots in the town centre

I was just reading the other article about his son holding the licence and it says on Feb 26 there was an atempt to transfer the licence to Gary Bennetton that the police intend to object too. So doesn't that seem to insinuate the new owner was previously connected to the old owners?

As usual you are all talking with no real facts to hand, my son held the premises licence he did so as he had a financial interest in the club. They'll be arguing over the IMAX again by this time next week.
And the surf reef hasn't been aired by the Echo for a while either so that will keep them occupied soon after.
Bournemouth will never get back to its quaint old tweed days - thank the Lord! .
Some of us do actually realise the days of ice-cream parlours, camp comics on the end of the pier and buses stopping in the town for all the coffin-dodgers are now thankfully a thing of the past.
So if you're ever thinking of making a comeback and doing it one more time Mr Carr.....
