Ice warning issued as plunging temperatures meet melting snow

Snow on cars in Boscombe this morning
A severe weather warning for ice has been issued as temperatures across Dorset drop below freezing overnight.
Snow showers across the county have left roads and pavements wet, and forecasters are warning drivers to be aware of the likelihood of ice, especially on minor roads.
Bournemouth Pier was closed today because of snow and ice
They say any further snow is more likely to settle as temperatures fall. Light snow showers are expected across the region from about 9pm, when temperatures will be -2C.
Bournemouth Council will have gritters out from 7pm, and Dorset County Council's gritters will be out from 4am.
More snow on the way - but it's not exactly woolly mammoth weather. Gritters will be going out at 2pm and again at 4am #dorsetgrit

Brrrr it's going to be another cold one tonight - we will be out salting the main routes from 7pm #dorsetgrit #grittertwitter

Dorset has mainly escaped the worst of the snow, which has been caused by the northern most edge of a snow storm forecasters have christened Xaver.
Until Saturday afternoon, experts thought the south coast would bear the brunt of the storm, but instead it's the Channel Islands and Northern France which have suffered. You can read more about the storm which missed us by 100 miles here.
