VIDEO: Convoy of bikes and scooters heads up A338 Spur Road in memory of Jade Clark
9:20am Monday 11th March 2013 in Latest
AROUND 400 scooter riders and bikers travelled up the A338 Spur Road on Saturday afternoon in tribute to 16-year-old Jade Clark.
Some 200 scooterists and bikers from Bournemouth and Poole clubs including the Newtown Cons, Modropheniacs and Renegades assembled at Velocity Scooters in Moordown, Bournemouth, at 3.30pm.
From there the convoy moved on to Springbourne Fire Station where at least 200 more riders joined for the main event – the journey up the A338 to Ringwood.
With the scooters limited to 30mph, the procession took more than half an hour to reach its destination.
Jade died in a collision on the A31 near Ashley Heath on Sunday, February 24, and the riders joined her family and friends at a memorial balloon release at 6pm on Saturday.
Ride organiser Colin McDonald said: “It has been amazing to see such a great turnout today.
“We had scooter clubs, bike clubs and trike clubs all keen to take part.
“It is a difficult thing to organise but everyone pulls together in this sort of situation.
“It is tragic that a 16-year-old girl lost her life in such circumstances, and we are all here to pay tribute. She was obviously a go-getting young girl and didn’t waste her life.
“At the end of the day this could have been any of our kids being knocked off so it really means something to the riders here.
“I'm hoping we will help them raise £1,000 at least for the Ringwood Young Firefighters, the family's chosen charity.”
Ian Keeping, 45, from the Dorset Knights Scooter Club in Blandford, was one of the many riders who travelled miles to take part in the event.
“We just want to show our support for the family in these tragic circumstances,” he said.
“Hopefully it will help highlight the dangers scooter riders face and encourage drivers to pay more attention.”
Ringwood biker Matthew Cornwall, 44, said: “I never knew Jade but I saw her about, this has really hit Ringwood hard. We are doing this in her honour.”

this poor young girl was killed by a hit & run driver!!
if as scooterist & bikers we can show support to the family for their tragic loss and to keep the media & the public alert that the vehicle needs to be found then we will!!!
our thoughts have been with the family at all times. and with the support of both dorset & hampshire police the rideout was well organised & supervisor ed with over 500 2 wheeled bikes in attendance

To all those critics out there making inappropriate and needless comments.....I ,along with many other friends who ride scooters where in attendance today and I just feel we should make quite clear that this is not and never was a witch hurt or a group of vigilantes. We all came together along with many other two wheeled rides to show respect to a young girl who lost her life. Finding the driver of said car will not bring Jade back but it may shed light on how and why and may give the family some sort of final peace and maybe the sight of 500 bikes etc making their way down the road where it happened may jog someone's memory or conscience. Please don't criticise what we have tried to achieve today,at least we did something.........

The ride was not a "rally". It was an event to support Jade's family, to raise awareness of the risks to young riders, and, coincidentally, to raise money for the family's chosen charity. No greater risk was created than would have been the case if a group of young riders on restricted 50cc machines had been out on the road on their own. I was there, and can tell you that the event was a success in all three areas mentioned above. It was conducted in a safe, respectful manner, with the full cooperation and support of the Hampshire and Dorset Constabularies. Well done to all who attended.

No offence to anyone in these awful circumstances. But I am sure there are actually a lot of us out here who are wondering this, particularly as the 'rally' simply created risks on this same road.

You didn't see people of all two- and three-wheeled persuasions joining together to show support for a vibrant young woman who was just beginning to realise her potential. A jolly? so it should have been, why does it have to be melancholic?

ashleycross wrote:your entitled to your opinion which by the way is meaningless. dont quite know where you get the idea that anyone was taking the mickey out of scooter riders at all. All those on scooters rode at the head of the convoy!! This ride was to pay respect to a 16yr old girl that died on 2 wheels and all those that turned up wanted to show that thoughts are with her family.
To me the sight of these riders of whom only the police are wearing high visibility clothing is very disrespectful to the memory of a child who has died recently whilst riding a scooter.
It's not big and it's not clever guys to ride at under 30mph on a dual carriageway in dark clothing.
Please, the adults amongst you, think about the example you're setting to children, and stop taking the mickey out of scooter riders who use hi viz.

muscliffman wrote:firstly it was a ride not a rally. secondly it was safely marshalled with police escorts and presented no risks to anyone. And finally the result of this ride is that we as the biking community showed our respect to and thoughts are with the family of this poor girl who tragically lost her life. i was honoured to be a part of it!

stormhuntr wrote:Yes unfortunately there are some "nasty" people about. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion - I have personal experience in losing a child in an RTC and know what Jade's mother is going through. I was in total shock for at least two weeks and just feel there is a lot of pressure on Jade's mother and she may not know what she is doing at present so I feel that all this media attention/ride outs etc may have a detrimental affect on her in the future. Whether or not they find the driver of the Volvo and the road layout etc changes she has still lost her daughter and that will never change.
Honestly can't believe how some people comment just to saying something nasty and needless, a the end of the day if people want to get together to honour the life of a young girl needlessly taken way too soon, then they should be allowed to do that without judgement or critisism, I dont drive a motorcycle or I would have joined in to pay my respect, I wont allow my daughter a bike for this reason, because as safe as she is and poor Jade probably was, I drive a car and see the ammount of bad car drivers on a daily basis, just like in this thread people with no respect for other people. enough said. R:I:P Jade and thoughts and best wishes to all your family may they get some sort of peace and comfort from the support shown to them on saturday the true good spirit of some amazing people, humanity at it's best xx
I know nothing will change the fact that Jades gone and her parents are still ging throu alot of different emotios right now but from what I hear jades mum and dad were there at this ride out, som peoplehandle grief in difeferent ways, maybe this has helped them come to terms with t (allhough I could never think you could really come to terms with somethin like that) .. I remember when I lost my mum my mind was in ahaze for weeks so I understand what your saying. but I still feal that alot of people arent thinking beor they post of what the consequences will be on jades parents if they see it (all comes down to derren brown mob mentality you see it all over the internet) some people should really tink wether or not they need to post, is it going to help if I say this yano xx

I am absolutely amazed at the negative remarks here! How can anything that shows respect and highlights an obvious danger be a negative!! Even if it was a "rally" or a "jolly" ...... so what? It was done for a reason. What are the rest of us doing to highlight this tragic event? And as for the "proper" sportsbike moron!!!!! I am embarrassed to say that I (like you) am a "proper" sportsbike person and we all had to start somewhere, I started on a 50cc Honda. Whats to say that poor Jade wouldn't have become a "proper" sportsbike rider had her life not been cut so tragically short? Or at least have become a better driver because of her experiences as a scooter rider? We all share the road together, some share it more selfishly than others, this was a show of solidarity by those that share it equally (out in the open and on limited amount of wheels) while the rest of us stayed in the warm and pretended that these accidents don't happen to us.
