£1,000 reward to find driver in Jade Clark death crash

Jade Clark, who died on the A31 on Sunday night Jade Clark, who died on the A31 on Sunday night

A £1,000 reward has been offered to find the hit-and-run driver who knocked Jade Clark off her scooter.

The driver of the silver Volvo XC90 left the scene of the horror crash before police arrived and six days on he or she has still not come forward.

Now Dorset’s top traffic officers are urging the driver or anyone with information about the car to contact them.

The cash reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for the arrest and charge of the offender.

Jade, 16, suffered fatal injuries in the accident, which happened on the westbound carriageway of the A31 near the Ashley Heath roundabout, at 8.23pm on Sunday night (Feb 24).

Police believe the teenager was riding her red scooter when she was struck by the Volvo XC90 and a number of other vehicles between the Verwood on-slip road and the A338 off-slip road.

Police have released this picture of a Volvo XC90.

Inspector Matt Butler said: “A number of vehicles were involved in the incident and one of these vehicles – a Volvo XC90 – left the scene before the police arrived.

“We know that the moped was upright at the time of the collision and believe that the Volvo XC90 was the first vehicle to collide with it.

“I need to trace the Volvo and urge anyone with information to contact me. I particularly appeal to the driver to get in touch.

“The front of the vehicle will be damaged. If anyone is aware of a Volvo XC90 which has sustained damage or has been repaired in the last few days, they should call the police urgently.”

Members of the public will only be eligible for the cash reward if they call the Crimestoppers line – on 0800 555 111 – with information that leads to the arrest and charge of an offender.

A post mortem examination was carried out yesterday afternoon and an inquest into Jade’s death is due to be opened early next week.

Jade was a former pupil at Ringwood School and left in July 2012 to follow her love of hairdressing by starting a college course.

She was also a member of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Young Firefighters Association in Ringwood.

Don't the police have access to the national car data base or do they only use it to find speeding drivers.
This should be easy and take a few hours to find this type of car in Hampshire and Dorset. That would be a start silver would cut the number down as well.
So why are the police dragging their feet over the death of this young lady?

Jade would no doubt be alive today if drivers observed the " 2 second rule"
when they drive inches away from the car infront incedents like this happen because idiot drivers cant stop in time as police said after jade was knocked off her scooter a number of other vehicles also hit her if they were driving at the right speed and with the proper distance from the car infront they would have been able to stop... but hey the rule of the road dont apply to them .. they know better..

I am sure if someone in another car knocks a scooter over they could very well knock it right in front of you if you were in the lane next to them & I don't think there would be much you could do about avoiding them. The fault should only really be placed, subject to the investigation that this poor girl is blameless for this, with the 1st car that knocked her off. The effect of where the scooter goes after that is quite frankly in no bodies hands but luck & fate.

They may not live in the area and therefore be unaware of the tragedy

If you hit someone riding a moped on a dual carriageway and drive off, you are aware you've done something wrong.

I am sure that if the police contacted the Volvo head office (as they may have done already) Volvo could give them the total numbes of Volvo XC 90s sold in the county, the number of silver ones and the dealers names and addresses.
If that is passed to All the police across the country it wouldn't take so long to eliminate the innocnt ones. A phone call could do most of it.
The Volvo 90 is not a cheap car at around £45,000 before discounts.

I am sure that with so many CCTV cameras operating that a sweep of the area's cameras shortly before and after the collision has been done, but it is surprising that the car has not been picked up on cameras or that the Police haven't given the public an idea of which way the car drove off or a description of the driver/passengers as that would really help jog people's memories ... and as this driver has still not come forward, surely it's time this was mentioned on the national news

Forgive me for playing detective, but from the pictures shown was the accident on the Ringwood to Bournemouth slip road? - hence the car heading towards Bournemouth and probably in a garage now.....
With the deepest respect and thoughts to Jade's family.
