Wool level crossing closed from Sunday

DRIVERS are being warned that the Wool level crossing will close for eight days from this Sunday.

The A352 will be closed to all traffic at the crossing with the exception of emergency vehicles, the local school bus and disabled users.

It is being closed to allow Network Rail engineers to carry out improvements to the railway and level crossing.

The official diversion route, which will be signed, is the A352 via Warmwell Cross and Broadmayne to Dorchester, onto the A35 Puddletown Bypass to Bere Regis then the road to Wool via Gallows Hill and past Monkey World.

Network Rail says it is working closely with Dorset County Council to minimise the disruption and to keep the closure as short as possible. The closure runs from March 3-11.

Rod Moorcroft from Network Rail said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this essential work will cause but we have done, and will continue to do, everything possible to minimise disruption as much as possible.

“The work we are doing will deliver a more reliable railway between Poole and Wool and we appreciate local people's patience and co-operation while we complete it.”

Network Rail is confident the work in Wool will be complete by March 11. But an additional week’s closure has been applied for should the work overrun.

As part of the same programme, work will also take place at the East Stoke level crossing, between Wool and Wareham, from March 16-25.

Emergency vehicles and pedestrians will be allowed to cross at East Stoke level crossing throughout the work.
