BOURNEMOUTH Air Festival has won acclaim across the pond after being named as one of the best air shows in the world.

American newspaper USA Today listed the event as one of its top 10 in a feature which also included spectacles in Florida, Germany and Canada.

It said of the show, which was held for the fifth time last summer and attracts hundreds of thousands of people: “The Bournemouth Air Festival, the largest free annual air show in Europe, combines two great things: airplanes and the beach.

“The four-day festival draws over a million spectators for its aerial shows, hot air balloon rides and fun in the sun.”

Air festival director, Jon Weaver, told the Daily Echo: “It's fantastic for Bournemouth to receive international recognition from America for its innovative approach to providing a unique Air Festival experience.

 

 

“The working relationship and support Bournemouth has with the tourism industry, the community and the armed forces means that we can continue to lead the way in developing an event that is more than just an air show - the Bournemouth Air Festival offers outstanding entertainment from 10am to 10pm and has been acknowledged at the European Air Convention this month for pioneering dusk air displays and evening entertainment.

“This year expect to see a return of some old time favourites along with brand new aircraft at the UK's largest free aviation spectacular - The Bournemouth Air Festival.”

The event's highlights in the past have included the famous Red Arrows, alongside daring aerobatic flying from the likes of The Blades and nostalgia from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

This year's festival takes place between August 29 and September 1.

What, is this a joke, pouring with rain for the past two years, I went to the first one but got bored seeing the same old Cessna fly over,Vulcan wont fly in the wet, the only draw is the Reds and the Eurofighter which never showed last year.
Might only be every 2 years but give me Farnborough air show every time, at least you can see the planes on the ground there.

Amazing how people can moan about such an excellent event which is free to attend!

Ever thought that events and days out are actually what YOU make of them? Get the family together and enjoy the sights and sounds of the planes? Enjoy the beach or the events around the town? It's an excellent event and have attended every day since it started.

One can not dispute the setting with two tier viewing , the content of program does require more input to rate it anywhere near Oshkosh, Waddington or Fairford for starters. But all credit we now have an airshow which many seaside town have had for years and was lacking here till recently

What a waste of my council tax....Oh and the noise pollution.....what about the pollution from the planes.....I think they should ban cycles....etc etc etc etc.....THIS IS SARCASM BEFORE SOME OF YOU JUMP ALL OVER THIS!!!

I have a radical idea, how about some of the miserable people who never have anything positive to say stop posting? The air show is something to celebrate, the weather is not something that can be controlled, if people across the globe think it's the best CELEBRATE or shut up!

I challenge anyone who bemoans this free festival for families and followers alike to come up with a better organised represented event that's not only free but puts across the role of armed forces, technology, and public support of the men women that serve, along with the aircraft, displays, vehicles, aircraft and ships...not forgetting the fireworks and free tribute concert bands live on the beach...well worth the council tax alone! The only good thing to come out of the Bournemouth tourist board.

well said, it's free and you don't have to go if you don't want to. Plenty of other beaches that are quiet.
