One of the drivers involved in the crash which killed teenager Jade Clark failed to stop after the accident, say police.

Sixteen-year-old Jade was riding her red scooter on the A31 at Ringwood on Sunday night when the accident happened.

Police think a number of vehicles were involved in the collision and investigating officers are keen to trace one of these cars which left the scene prior to the arrival of police.

Traffic Inspector Matt Butler said: “We know from our investigation so far that a number of vehicles were involved in the incident and one of these vehicles – a Volvo XC90 – left the scene before police arrived.

“I need to trace this vehicle and urge anyone with information to contact me. I particularly appeal to the driver to get in touch.

“The front of the vehicle will be damaged. If anyone is aware of a Volvo XC90 which has sustained damage or has been repaired in the last few days, they should call police urgently.

“I also urge any witnesses to the collision, and anyone with information, to contact me.”

Police have released this picture of a Volvo XC90.

I do so hope they get the people involved in this.
The filter and four lines are death traps - with some drivers cutting back and forth across the lines to save time. It's terrifying sometimes.
My sympathy goes to Jade's family and friends - I think of her mum and dad when I wake each morning and imagine what faces them in their days ahead.

The A31 and those slip roads are terrible, i work in ringwood and dread finishing at 5 o clock due to all the traffic and all the cars that do not slow down to let you out, i read another post on here about making it a 50 zone, they also need to make other adjustments to make the a31 safer to prevent further loss. RIP.

I often ride my motorbike along that stretch of road pulling out from Ringwood, it's terrifying how dangerous and arrogant some drivers are... in light of this tragedy, I truly hope that all road users exercise more consideration & care on the roads ... we need more tolerance, less speed & even if a car/motorbike/cyclis
t may be 'in your way', just stop for a second & consider the impact hitting a person/vehicle has ... it's not like in the movies... this is real ... thoughts are with Jade & her family RIP

Unbelievable someone could drive off after something like that. If I'd killed or been involved in killing anyone by accident I wouldn't care about being in trouble with the Police immediately. I'd be too concerned about the victim and wrapped with guilt even if it was a complete accident. People that run away should be very severely punished.

I used this stretch of road for eight years and the 'Fish Inn' slip road should have been closed years ago. The road could have been opened up all the way to the Verwood turn off and make the Ringwood junction a lot safer.
Hit and run drivers are scum!

The whole stretch from the Ringwood and 'Fish Inn' slip roads needs a complete rethink.Traffic comming over the bridge from Poulner Hill are travelling to fast to be able 'safely' negociate joining traffic from both slip roads.
Having a petrol station midway - doesnt help matters !

This sad story of the death of a very young person is only made worse by the knowlege that some moronic driver has failed to stop at the scene of a major accident.... absolute beggars belief !!

My sympathies to Jades family. Knowing this latest news must be devestaing for them.........

To think that just a couple of weeks ago people were on this site complaining at a proposal to reduce the speed limit on this very dangerous stretch of road.

I wonder if those same people now understand why it must change.

Scum like this have little or no human feelings other than for themselves.
The XC90 is an expensive car to own and run so the owner/driver may think with all that money they're probably above the law or eventual any legal proceedings as a result of this blatant violation against mankind.
Were they driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs? That would be so difficult to prove now but when they are found, hopefully somebody will identify and finger them, they should lose their driving licence for LIFE as they are more of a liability on the roads than anything else.
Either that or they simply find it so difficult to obtain vehicle insurance for the damming entry they will receive on the national insurance database against their name.
Jade, R.I.P., you didn't deserve this.

It is an offence to leave the scene of an accident without reporting it to the Police. Failing to Stop is the term used by the Police. It means leaving the scene before statements are taken so that investigations can be made.
If thet person has left the scene before Police have questioned / breathalysed etc. that amounts to 'failing to stop'.
It doesn't mean waiting until someone else turns up, or simply phoning the Police.
I really hope that they find whoever it is - soon.
My sympathies go to the family and friends. That stretch of road, unfortunately, is an accident waiting to happen. Close the Fish Inn road now!

Not really Scrumpyjack. If you've ever tried to pull into the petrol station when the road is busy whilst avoiding cars emerging from the Fish Inn slipway that are trying to accellerate up to 50+ mph you'll realise the problem.
Similarly, pulling out of the petrol station into a stream of fast moving traffic is horrendous. It only takes one person pulling into Verwood to miss an indication and you have a major problem.
The Fish Inn slip should be closed, it only serves as a shortcut for traffic from the town.
The speed limit should be cut to 50mph until just after the Verwood slip.

I have found going from well lit area to darkness then back to well lit a problem when heading west in this area.

Recently driving back from London late at night I noticed that many areas on major roads have reduced lighting, very difficult driving in these conditions, I wonder if there has been an increase in accidents.

No excuse for dangerous driving and leaving the scene, of course.
