Future of Maiden Newton at War event in doubt

PARADE: Airborne re-enactors in the village at a previous event
ONE of Dorset’s leading Second World War re-enactment events is facing a crisis.
Maiden Newton at War, which runs every two years over a weekend in June, recreates the atmosphere of the 1940s through living history and re-enactments.
The event sets out to mark the difficult war years and to remember the contribution that the village made to the war effort and the sacrifices people made.
The organising committee is now looking for a new chairman and event manager.
The current chairman, Andy Elliott, has been heavily involved in all three previous events and has now decided to stand down.
Mr Elliott said: “This event demands a lot from the manager, but is terrifically rewarding.
“Large crowds turn up to enjoy some of the best bits of the forties; the music, the fashions and the unique atmosphere.
“The battle re-enactments are a reminder of the conflict and the suffering that we should never forget. This event is in danger of being lost without a new manager, could this be you?”
If you are interested in taking this on for the next event, planned for 2014, then contact Mr Elliott on 07967 504716.
Applicants have to be quick as the committee meets on Thursday of this week to decide upon the future of the event.
