Elderly man rescued after being stuck in mud ignored warning signs

AN elderly man in his 80s had a lucky escape after he was stuck in the mud having tried to walk past a landslip at Swanage on Saturday afternoon.

By pure chance, two off-duty members of the Swanage Coastguard Rescue team happened to be in the area at the time.

They managed to rescue the pensioner from Middlesex who was none the worse for his ordeal.

A coastguard spokesman said the man was very embarrassed.

He added: "It could have been a lot more serious."

He said about six people have been stuck in mud after ignoring landslip warning signs and taped off areas along the Dorset coast in recent weeks.

Why do people still ignore the warning signs??
They put other people's lives at risk when they have to be rescued.
This man was fortunate the right people were nearby, others might not be so lucky.

But you must know that warning signs only apply to other people, never oneself!

I recall being in Poole Library early in the 1980's one day when a couple of areas were taped off for building work with signs saying keep out. And lots of people were in these sections browsing the shelves. Pointless, really, since they clearly couldnt read properly

Perhaps he had a vision and so thought that he could walk on water as well?

Someone should work out how much it would of cost to rescue him, and then send him a bill.

What a bell end!
Putting the rescue guy lifes in danger too.
Think the council needs to get some diggers down there and remove the piles of earth before the summer.

Send him and every other stupid prson a bill for at least £1,000 for the rescue services and then give the money TO the rescue services.
The problem is that there is no medical cure for stupidity and it seems to affect a small amount of the population at large, age is no barrier.
