Bournemouth's council tax frozen for the third year in a row

Bournemouth set to confirm council tax freeze Bournemouth set to confirm council tax freeze

COUNCIL tax bills have been “frozen” in Bournemouth for the third year running.

Cabinet members voted to reduce bills by 0.7 per cent, which will absorb increases in the police and fire precepts and keep bills the same.

The council tax bill for a Band D property remains at £1,258.

The council has decided to release more than £23 million from reserves to ensure there are no cuts to frontline services.

Budgets for children’s services and adult social care have been boosted by an extra £6 million.

Allowances to councillors have also been frozen for the fourth consecutive year.

And members agreed to proposals for £5,000 to be allocated to each ward in the borough for “small but necessary improvements” in local areas.

So taking into account inflation, then extra going to the Police and Fire Services, where will the cut backs in services occur?

Its about time The fire service arrived in the 21st century, paying Fire fighters to sleep on station ,and then they go and get 2nd jobs is no longer acceptable, they are reducing the pay of the the part time fire fighters to keep the full time ones in a job.
there is not enough work for so many full time fire fighters in Dorset.
Give them a shift pattern that does not allow them to get paid to sleep.
I do not agree the Fire service should get even more from the council tax they should get less and manage themselves better.

In reality, I have received nothing one could say arose from the Council Tax paid for 2012/2013. I did have Gas Central Heating fitted (1 bed flat), but that money was from surplus funds from 2011/2012. I have asked for other work to be done such as adding extra wall sockets in on the staircase and landing, and extra lighting outside the front door, but the council said it would have to be accessed, and a charge quoted, plus and hourly rate for the contractor.

Then there is the bins. We the tenants and residents still have to wheel the heavy laiden bins to the pavement, or just in sid the gates. However, this is still a walk for some of those of us who are disabled or elderly. The distance we wheel the bins is far greater than the the Refuse Operators themselves.

Stop paying for every bodies kids to go to playschools and nurseries, that would save a couple of million.

The previous Labour Government doubled Council Tax and we received nothing in return for this extra funding - there should be plenty of scope to save money by axing non-jobs without effecting services

I think you'll find that:
1. The Council tax is set by your local council not by Government
2. Council tax accounts for 20% only of the council's budget, the rest comes from the national pot.
3. Which jobs do you wish to axe?

If you are disabled you can apply to the Town Hall to have your bins collected from the house or flat. Phone them up and tell them you want to apply for a dispensation.

Sorry but shouldn't the picture with this story be with the Bournemouth Development Company article.

Surely, this is a prime town centre development site.

You could put a few offices for them in an industrial unit near Castlepoint or better still in the under used converted tram sheds at their Southcote Road Depot in Boscombe!
