Weymouth phone line problems continue

ALMOST 200 people are still without working phone lines after another fault in Weymouth.

BT engineers are working to fix the underground cable on Chickerell Road.

The company said all phone users should be reconnected by early next week.

It comes after 120 phone users were cut off after damage was caused to an underground cable on Wyke Road last month.

A spokesman for BT said: “We have received complaints from around 190 phone faults in the Chickerell and Lanehouse Rocks area of Weymout since Sunday.

“It is not linked to earlier problems in Wyke Regis and we are working to fix the problem.

“It is a quite a complex underground fault and could have been caused by heavy rainfall.”

Actually you can. Pressurise the cable with dry air and it would have to be quite a big hole before any water would get in.

Or update the system to fibre-optic cable and then water shouldn't have any effect even if it did get in.
