VOLUNTEER cooks were too busy for much tossing in St Michael’s Church Hall in Lyme Regis on Shrove Tuesday as they beavered away to keep diners happy for the Pancake Day celebration.

Church member and event organiser Betty Wood said: “We were celebrating Shrove Tuesday in aid of St Michael’s Church funds and the Get Together Club of Lyme Regis for the over 50s.

“We served about 75 pancakes and ended up with £250 profit to split between the church and the club.

“We were so busy making them we didn’t have time for more than one flip! We had a lot of people in although not everybody had a pancake I am sure some people had two.”

Mrs Wood said five of them made all the pancakes but there were 10 helpers altogether serving teas and doing the raffle.

The first pancake celebration the church held was last year to raise money for its flower festival.

She added: “We would like to think it could be a new tradition but I don’t know because we are all getting older.

“It was just nice to be able to raise funds for the church and the club.”
