Dorset Police top cop appointment live on web
5:07pm Wednesday 6th February 2013 in Latest
THE first ever webcast of a Dorset County Council meeting is to be held tomorrow.
The pilot broadcast will cover the police and crime panel at County Hall in Dorchester tomorow at 10.30am.
The panel will decide whether to confirm the appointment of Debbie Simpson as chief constable of Dorset Police, as recommended by police and crime commissioner Martyn Underhill. It will also consider Mr Underhill's draft police and crime plan for Dorset, which sets out his priorities for the next five years.
It will also consider his recommendation to increase the police council tax charge by 1.95 per cent in 2013 to 2014. The policing precept is the part of the council tax which goes to pay for Dorset Police. For 2013/14 it is proposed that this will be £183.51 for a Band D property - a rise of £3.51 on the current year. The Dorset police and crime panel is made up of representatives from the county council and all of Dorset's borough and district councils, plus two independent members. The webcast will be available to view from 10.30am on dorsetforyou.com/webcast
Dorset County Council said that the webcast is a pilot to see whether whether people are interested in watching committees and council business in this way.
It said that many other councils around the country webcast their key committee meetings and full council meetings.
