Companies across Dorset give support to coast path event

COMPANIES across Dorset have been pledging their support for an event that will give the South West Coast Path a boost.

The firms are offering special incentives and rewards for people who sign up now to join the Great South West Walk, which will pass through the county in the Spring.

The South West Coast Path Association-organised walk takes place in April and May with a relay of 56 sponsored walks to cover the 630 mile path around Dorset, Devon and Cornwall and the Exmoor coast through Somerset.

The walk will raise funds for significant improvement projects for the coast path and for its general maintenance.

Registration for the event is now open, with a deadline of March 4 for anyone interested in taking part.

Has this event got the support of landowners whose land this coastal path passes thru'. I have heard that one major landowner in Dorset has been quite un cooperative.

The event is following the SW Coast Path National Trail, so in common with anyone who walks the path (or other public rights of way), does not require additional permission from landowners - though I'm sure the Association hope they will support it in the same way as local businesses are.

The event uses public paths, so no permission issues arise. However, we have had fantastic support from all involved - businesses and landowners. Indeed, down in Cornwall a landowner has offered us access over his private land next to a landslip site to enable the Great South West Walk to go ahead without diverting to a road.
