Weymouth road closure extended by a week

Work to install a crossing point on Cumberland Drive in Weymouth has been hit by the recent cold weather.

The road closure, between the Cumberland Drive junction with Chickerell Road and access to the Land Registry, will now last until the end of Friday 8 February, one week longer than planned.

Council chiefs say the temperature has been too cold to lay concrete or ‘black-top’ and so has added a week onto the original closure.

Businesses remain open as usual, with drivers needing to access the Granby Industrial Estate from Chickerell Link Road.

The toucan crossing being installed on Cumberland Drive is part of the Marsh Route shared use footpath and cycleway, which links Newstead Road with Chickerell Link Road.

Other work in the area has, so far, been unaffected by the cold weather.

It took them the best part of 2 months to paint a circle on the road at the Dorchester Road/Littlemoor Road junction. Anything else that they did there was a waste of time, effort and our money.

I couldn't agree more. Too much mamby pamby HSE rubbish as well!
Anyone with half a brain knows when something is not safe to do, unless they have not been trained properly!

I don't think that this delay is an H&S issue, but I do wonder which well-paid muppet considered it a good idea to lay concrete in the middle of Winter. I just hope that all this disruption will be worth it for a few cyclists and hope that it will recoup some of the greenhouse gases generated by all of the motorists stuck in traffic jams and then made to drive the extra miles just to get to and from work on the Granby, not even taking the HGVs into account.

Council Chiefs, should start giving tendering these works to private companies and not just giving to Dorset Works, I would put a good bet on that it would be cheaper and carried out a lot quicker.

as a keen cyclist, i think the whole idea of a cycle path is a load of rubbish. Do people not have the ability to ride on the road anymore. Muppets!
