Flood warnings for Weymouth and West Dorset

FLOOD warnings have been issued for Weymouth and West Dorset.

The Environment Agency has issued a ‘flood alert’ for the River Wey from Upwey to Radipole Lake, Preston Brook and the River Jordan.

In West Dorset the agency is also warning householders to be aware.

A spokesman said: “Groundwater levels in West Dorset generally remain high but we will continue to monitor the situation following recent rainfall.

“Most of the boreholes are above the Flood Alert threshold and the alert is expected to remain in place for the next few weeks.

Groundwater levels are highest along the South Winterbourne valley and along the River Wey. There is an increased risk of property flooding in these areas. We will continue to monitor the situation and update as the situation changes.”
