The town of Dorchester
DORCHESTER has been named as the most virile town in the south west.
Men from the county town are the least likely to suffer from impotency, according to the results of a survey published today.
Medical clinic Health-Express analysed more than 15,000 consultations sought by impotency sufferers in the past year.
It found that only 51 Dorchester men needed help compared to 169 in the least virile south west city, Plymouth. But the findings might not be good news after all, as it could suggest Dorchester men are shy when it comes to discussing embarrassing conditions. Doctor Hilary Jones, a medical adviser to HealthExpress and television personality said: “The survey could reflect a regional reticence factor in men actually admitting erectile dysfunction and seeking help for it.”
Experts have warned there could be a rise in impotence as men experience a rise in life pressures. It could lead to increased stress levels and anxiety which are common causes of the condition. Around 33 per cent of men will suffer from impotence at some point in their lives. And work stresses, home pressures and the recession could lead to impotency.
Doctor Jones added: “Impotence is a common issue and many doctors have seen an increased number of men coming to them for advice, as the stress of everyday life affects their erectile function.
“It is key to gain medical advice as in some cases it can be a sign of a more serious underlying health issues including diabetes and heart problems. Impotence is not something men should be embarrassed about and there a lot of treatments on the market, whether that be prescription drugs, therapy in the form of counselling or relaxation, and in rare cases, surgery.”
