New flood warnings and alerts have been issued for Dorset

TOWNS and villages are on flood alert in south west Dorset after heavy rain.

Hail on the roads has been reported at Broadmayne, while the A35 to Kingston Maurward has heavy surface spray.

The A352 at between Gallows Hill in Owermoigne and the B3071 Station Road in Wool is also flooded.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for the South Winterbourne Valley.

This includes Winterbourne Abbas, Winterbourne Steepleteon, Martinstown, Winterbourne Monkton, Winterbourne Herringston and Winterbourne Came.

There are also flood alerts in place for west Dorset rivers streams.

They include the rivers Char, Lim, Simene, Brit, Asker, Mangerton and Bride in the Bridport, Lyme Regis and Charmouth areas.

Flood alerts are also in place for the Rver Piddle and the Lower Frome and their tributaries.

The River Wey in Weymouth to Radiple Lake is on flood alert along with Preston Brook and the River Jordan at Preston in Weymouth.

The Environment Agency is also warning of groundwater flooding In West Dorset.

This includes Bridport, Martinstown, Milborne St Andrew, Nottngton, Piddlehinton, Piddletrenthide, Upwey, Weymouth, Winterbourne Abbas, Winterborne Kingston, Winterborne Steepleton, Winterborne Stickland, Winrerborne Whitchurtch and Winterborne Zelston.

The rain is expected to contiunue all day today and into tomorrow but is expected to improve tomorrow although temperatures may drop.

In the Dorset Premier League, Portland united's game with Shaftesbury has been postponed due to a flooded pitch.
