Victim of attack in Bournemouth 'had corrosive liquid thrown in face'

A MAN who was viciously attacked in Bournemouth had “corrosive liquid” thrown in his face.

The victim was badly injured in the attack at Branksome Hill Road, Meyrick Park, and remains in hospital.

Now detectives investigating the serious assault are renewing appeals for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward, after revealing the victim – a 46-year-old from Bournemouth – suffered terrible injuries.

Detective Inspector Becky Riggs, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said: “This was an extremely nasty attack and the victim has been left with very serious injuries.

“The offender may also have received burn type injuries. I am appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to contact Dorset Police.

“I am particularly interested in any sightings of a white Nissan people carrier in the area of the offence at the time.”

No arrests have yet been made by officers.

The victim was attacked between 6pm and 7pm on December 27. Police closed the residential road at both ends from the evening of the assault until lunchtime of the following day as forensic officers examined the scene.

Two houses – one in Branksome Wood Road, and a second in Dorset Road – were cordoned off, and part of an iron fence fronting a wooded area was also taped off by police.

Residents told the Daily Echo at the time that they only knew someone had been hurt in an incident.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 27:379.

Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111, where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

This type attack is very prevalent in Pakistan, usually as a 'matter of honour'.

Although of course I am sure this has relevance here.

Who knows but it does seem planned. Who would carry around that sort of stuff without a real reason.
