Gags galore with funny men at Bridport Arts Centre

COMING SOON: Milton Jones will be appearing at Bridport Arts Centre
KINGS of comedy will bring a bundle of laughs to Bridport as part of the arts centre’s programme for the New Year.
Comedian Milton Jones will kick off a season of comedy on January 19 with a show to warm-up his national tour and madcap character Russell Kane takes to the stage on April 8.
Bridport’s own Tom Glover will be returning with the popular comedy cafe starting on February 8, with a series of evenings featuring new and different comedy talent and iconoclast Simon Evans will be holding court on Thursday, April 16.
The programme also features a season of varied drama, starting on January 23 with Romeo and Juliet from the Icarus Theatre Company and including the sequel to War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, brought to town by New Perspectives and Scamp Theatre on February 22.
Arts centre director Polly Gifford said: “We have some great exhibitions, performances and events to get you through the dark days of winter and on into spring.
“Music and theatre features strongly, as does film, both through our fantastic Curzon Cinema programme and the return of the popular From Page to Screen Festival in April. We have a special treat in March when Anna Pavord shares her encyclopaedic knowledge of the tulip in the special fundraising event to welcome in the spring.”
Musically, a Valentine special showcases the songs of Edith Piaf on February 16 as the 50th anniversary of the death of the French chanteuse approaches.
Opus Anglicanum brings a musical celebration of England via an historical journey on March 9 and there is also a selection of jazz and classical concerts and even a silent disco on March 30, to suit all tastes.
The Arts Centre Building Development fundraising talk on March 20 is by gardening writer Anna Pavord on the tulip, the subject of her best selling book.
The first exhibition of the year is by Peter Hand; a special presentation called Repository of Dreams in the Marlow Theatre from January 25 to February 3 which explores the human mind and sexuality through sculpture.
