Disabled access on Dorset's high streets will be focus of new study

A MAJOR study is being carried out to discover the difficulties faced by disabled people, elderly residents and carers on Dorset’s high streets.

The far-ranging survey will gauge accessibility to public transport, quality of paving, availability of dropped kerbs as well as helpfulness of staff, parking issues, changing rooms and toilet provision.

Access Dorset, the umbrella charity carrying out the survey, says no stone will be left unturned in its quest to bring about improvements.

Chief executive Jonathan Waddington Jones said: “For many disabled and older people, travelling to a town centre and getting around once they arrive can be challenging. Simple measures such as removing street clutter and obstacles in shops can make an enormous difference.”
