A TEENAGE boy was seriously hurt after a bus accidentally drove over him following a collision, witnesses said.
The 17-year-old was in collision with an M1 Wilts and Dorset bus on Commercial Road in Bournemouth yesterday.
Passers-by urged the driver to reverse so they could help him - but witnesses said the shocked driver then went forwards over his leg.
Dorset Police said they were called to the accident at 2.15pm outside Smokin’ Aces bar.
A man from a shop who asked not to be named said: “I could see his foot sticking out under the tyre and people were telling the driver to reverse.
“But instead of reversing he came forward and it went over the foot then. The bus driver must have been in shock as well.”
Josh Mitchell, 21, whose flat overlooking the scene and who works at Aruba, said: “I heard a big bang and a lot of people shouting that somebody was stuck under the bus.
“Everyone shouted at the bus driver to reverse but then he went forward. I heard people shouting ‘stop going forwards, you are meant to go back’.
“I saw the injured guy later. His face was bleeding a lot – his nose was definitely broken and he had cuts on his head.
“There was a lot of blood around his leg and I heard someone say it was broken.
“He looked like a language student. He had flip-flops and shorts. He looked maybe Spanish. The blood on the pavement was pretty brutal.”
A Wilts & Dorset spokesman said: “We are helping the police investigation into the incident and CCTV footage will be supplied to the officers in charge. “The company wishes for a full and fast recovery for the pedestrian who is believed to be a foreign student.”
Witnesses said staff from Smokin’ Aces were the first to help but they declined to comment.
A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said the boy suffered injuries to his face, lower legs and feet.
Dorset Police spokesman said the injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Speaking at the scene, Sgt Sarah Jones said: “The male pedestrian has been taken to Southampton Hospital.”
The bus had a shattered front windscreen.
When it was moved around 3.45pm, it revealed a large patch of blood behind the front nearside wheel.
A female passenger was taken to Poole hospital for treatment for chest pains.
The road was closed at The Triangle and traffic was diverted down Avenue Road past Bournemouth Library.

I wonder if the accident could be down to confusion by the young man of what is and what is not part of the pedestrian precinct? Every time I go into Bournemouth, at least one person walks out in front of me, especially bad by HSBC, Austin Reed and the one-way road opposite KFC in the triangle.
Could the council mark the area’s where road meets pedestrian areas a little clearer perhaps?

I almost had one of their buses in the back of my car earlier. I stopped to let someone into a junction with plenty of room behind me, then there was a squeal of breaks and an (overweight) idiot bus driver right up my tail.
Or perhaps I was driving my stealth Vauxhall again which other cars can't see? I seem to switch the invisibility on without knowing.

I wonder why he was taken to Southampton hospital.

BournemouthConspiracWell obviously his injuries were more serious! Southampton have departments that specialise in more serious accidents. Sherlock.

Especially bad is the new Tesco store in the old Borders building. The street says "look both ways", but we find 99% of people take that to mean "zebra crossing, just walk across and all vehicles will instantly stop for you". What's frightening is the number of parents who will shove their baby carriage directly into the path of oncoming traffic without a second thought, wait for the car to skid to a stop, and then leisurely march across the road while talking nonstop on their mobile! That "crossing" is extremely dangerous and desperately needs a signal put in!

Well it looks like a More bus from Wilts and Dorset but it cant be as, the journalist says the bus is registered to a Poole company, and Wilts and Dorset are registered in Newcastle.

there are 2 crossings less than 50 yards away from where he got hit. I cross that road twice a day, every day and i've never been hit by a bus. students these days... need to look both ways.
I have sympathy for the poor boy who was hit and hope he recovers well, but IF that was the case, the language schools should teach the students basic British ways, even if that does include how to use a bank machine, how to sit on the seat NEXT to their friend on the bus and not shout to each other over the top of everyone else, how to recognise a road from a pathway and how to cross a road (without being hit by a bus). I'm not even going to start on queuing.

That one opp Tesco really needs resurfacing too so the idiots that just step off the pavement onto it don't fall A over T in front of a car (mine).
Part of the problem in the Triangle is the people who don't use the pedestrian crossings but just dash out in front of traffic. I live in the area and see it happening many times a day. Most of these people don't even look before they step out in to the street, they just start walking and glare at traffic that comes too close.

While people are moaning about people not using crossings, what about where all the buses are in the Square. You want to go from Smith's to get a bus to Poole? Dodge buses. Roll on the new bus station if we get one!

That's a More bus which I believe is part of the Wilts & Dorset Bus Company.
Hope the chap, (can't really call a 17 year old a boy!) is going to be OK.
